For those who just want to sleep in the car

Some people do not want a tent and do not want a room. They want to park somewhere quiet, fold the seats down and be gone at first light. That is what this is. There are three spots right along the bank of Cabin Creek to park and sleep in your vehicle, and the water is close enough to hear all night. Each spot takes one vehicle and up to two people.

Be clear about what is not down there: no power in the parking area and no bins. Both exist, along with everything else, across the street with the rest of the campground. All of the amenities are open to you — the indoor heated shower, the rec room, the party deck, the spring water tap. Starlink WiFi does reach the creek bank, which is more than the cell network manages anywhere in this valley.

The shower is included. Linens are not, and that is the honest difference between this and the canvas: if you want a bed made up, the glamping tent has a real queen with linen on it and the yurt has hard walls and a fridge.

Where you actually are

Highway 58, 2.4 miles from the Grayson Highlands State Park entrance and 6.4 from the Massie Gap lot where people start walking to find the wild ponies. Mount Rogers is a day hike, the Appalachian Trail crosses at mile 496.5, and Damascus is about forty minutes west. There is trout in the creek you are parked beside.

Bringing a tent instead? Tent sites are the same $25 for one person, down the same slope toward the same water.

Car camping questions

Is there power at the parking area?

No. The car camping spots sit on the creek bank and there is no electric hookup and no bin there. Both exist across the street with the rest of the campground, along with the heated shower and the rec room, and you are welcome to use all of it. Bring whatever you need charged, or charge it in the rec room.

Does the WiFi reach?

Yes. The Starlink signal carries down to the creek bank, which is more than can be said for cell service anywhere in these mountains. Download your maps before you drive out, but you can work or call home from the car.

Are linens included?

No. Car camping and tent camping are both bring-your-own — the shower is included, the bedding is not. If you want a bed made up for you, the glamping tent has a real queen bed with linen on it and the yurt has a full bunk plus a pull-out couch.

What do I actually get for the money?

A place to park and sleep on the bank of Cabin Creek, and everything the campground has across the street: the indoor heated shower, the rec room with the microwave and coffee maker, the party deck, Starlink WiFi and the spring water tap. Nothing on the property is gated behind a more expensive booking.

How is it priced?

$25 covers the vehicle and one person, and a second person in it is $15 a night. So a couple sleeping in the same car is $40.

How many spots are there?

Three, and each takes one vehicle with up to two people in it. If you are travelling in a group with more than one car, book a spot per vehicle — or give us a ring and we will work it out with you.
