What comes in the full backpack rental?
A complete setup: backpack and pack cover, tent or Hennessey hammock, sleeping bag, bed roll, cook stove and pot, Sawyer filtration, stuff bags, paracord, trowel and trekking poles. The purchase items — fuel canister, emergency poncho, Sawyer bladders and a hiker first aid kit — are included at no extra cost. It is $300 for two nights and $100 for each additional night.
Can I rent just one or two items?
Yes. Every item is available individually, and the second item is half price when you rent two or more. That is usually the cheapest fix if a stove died or a tent pole snapped a few days back.
Do I need to reserve gear in advance?
Walk-ins are welcome when gear is available, but stock is finite and spring NOBO season and October weekends go quickly. Reserving guarantees your setup. Call (276) 280-6253 or use the contact form.
Do you deliver gear to a trailhead?
We run shuttles to Elk Garden, Massey Gap, Dickey Gap, Bear Tree Gap and Damascus, and gear can travel with you. Sort it out when you book the shuttle so we know what is coming.
What if something breaks while I am out?
Tell us when you get back. Normal trail wear is expected and we are not going to charge you for it. Genuine loss or damage beyond that we will discuss — we would rather you used the gear properly than babied it.
Do you rent crash pads for bouldering?
No. Grayson Highlands State Park rents crash pads from the park office, along with guidebooks, chalk and brushes. We rent backpacking and hiking equipment.
